First Round of the 2022 Domestic Conference Grant (for Organizers)

This grant is awarded to organizations holding conferences and is intended to subsidize the cost of conference organization and management.

Applications for the first round of the 2022 Domestic Conference Grant (for Organizers) are no longer being accepted.

Application Guidelines


The purpose of this grant is to invigorate Japanese contemporary art by supporting the exchange activities between those active in the field. Priority will be given to activities that expand the possibilities of the field and create new value through discussions of the practical problems and issues facing the Japanese contemporary art field and through sharing of information and experiences. In 2022, there will be two rounds of applications.

Eligibility Criteria

Support to cover part of the costs of holding conferences in Japan related to contemporary art

  • * Only conferences that are held on a not-for-profit basis are eligible.
  • * Conferences include study groups, symposiums, workshops, network meetings, etc., regardless of size. However, conferences whose results benefit only a specific organization are not eligible.
  • * At least half of the conference attendees must be curators or other people engaged in specialized duties in the field.
  • * Costs associated with operating an online-only conference or the online portion of a hybrid online and in-person conference are eligible for support.

Period for Eligible Activities for the First Round of Applications

Conferences to be held between April 2022 and the end of March 2023.

  • * For the second round of applications, conferences must be held between October 2022 and the end of September 2023.

Qualifications Necessary to Apply

Individuals who have been engaged in specialized duties in the fields of arts and culture for 3 years or more, or individuals who are judged as having similar expertise (based on information provided in their application form). Applications can be made by an individual or organization.

Size of the Grant

Expected total value to be distributed in the first round of applications: 2.5 million yen

  • * The maximum allowable amount per application is 500,000 yen. In the amount column of the application form, please describe the necessary expenses up to the amount for which you have applied.

How to Apply

Please submit applications via the online application system.

  • 2) After creating your My Page, please submit your application. Click the link and read "Flow of the Application for the Grant" for more details.

Documents to be submitted

  • 1) Application Information: Follow the instructions and provide the required information.
  • 2) Application forms: Please download the form in Word format, input as necessary and then upload in PDF format.
  • * Applications cannot be accepted by post or in person.
  • * The applicant must bear the costs required for submission of the application.
  • * Submitted documents will not be returned.

Schedule from Application to Payment of the Grant

  • 1) First round application period: Thursday, April 28 – Midday, Sunday, July 17, 2022
    • * Second round application period: scheduled for Monday, September 12 – Midday, Monday, October 31, 2022
  • 2) Selection period: scheduled for early August
  • 3) Payment of grant: approximately one month from time of selection decision


  • 1) Selection method
    Selection will be made by the Selection Committee, comprising the Foundation's Arts and Culture Selection Committee Members and outside experts engaged as necessary.
  • 2) Selection criteria
    • 1.The purpose and significance of the conference to be held
    • 2.Does the conference have a novel perspective?
    • 3.Feasibility and influence
    • 4.Past achievements of applicant
  • 3) Results of the selection
    Each applicant will be notified of the result of their application by email.
  • * No inquiries regarding selection criteria or selection decisions will be accepted. Your understanding is appreciated.

Cancellation / Postponement of Conference

In the event of cancellation or postponement of the conference, you must inform the Administrative Office immediately. If the event is canceled after the grant is issued, you will be asked to refund the grant. If the conference is postponed, you must inform us of the new date.

Submission of Report

  • 1) Please submit the Activity Report (in a format determined by the Foundation) within 3 months of holding the conference.
  • 2) Please inform us promptly as the conference outline, posters, pamphlets, etc. are completed. They may be attached to the report at the time of submission.
  • 3) Please note that the Activity Report will be posted in the Foundation's annual report, website, etc.

Regarding Public Announcement of the Grant

Please note that the names of grant recipient individuals and organizations, as well as the name of the supported activity will be made public on the Foundation’s website and other publications, etc.


All copyrights of the deliverables related to this grant belong to the recipients of the grant.
When the Foundation produces public relations materials and publications related to this grant program, it may use the texts and images published in reports, etc. with prior permission.

Revocation of Eligibility and Refund of Grant

  • 1) If information provided in an application form is shown to be false, the application eligibility will be revoked.
  • 2) If after a grant has been paid, information in an application form is found to be false, the grant will be canceled and a refund will be requested.
  • 3) If you do not submit the Activity Report within the time specified, a refund of the grant may be requested.


The applicant must not be involved with any antisocial forces.

Privacy Policy

All personal information obtained by the Foundation will only be used within the scope necessary to review, process and finalize the grant.
The Foundation shall not provide personal information to a third party without obtaining the consent of the relevant individual.
